Album of contempory celebrities
An art nouveau promotional album for the biscuit company on the occasion of the awarding of a grand prize at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris, the first to a French biscuit company. Each page is of heavy gray art paper with art nouveau designs in color and gilt. Part of the designs form strips or flaps to hold 59 embossed cards in colors and gilt, three or four per page. The cards depict famous French actors, actresses, artists, composers, aviators, and other prominent people such as Sarah Bernhardt, Bartholdi, Cléo de Merode, Anatole France, Yvette Guilbert, Massenet, Otéro and Sardou. They include a small photographic portrait, autograph, sentiments and an illustration relevant to the personage.
