About this collection

William du Pont, Jr. (1896-1965) was the son of William du Pont and Annie Rogers Zinn du Pont.

Growing up on the family estate in Montpelier, Virginia, William du Pont, Jr. developed his interests at an early age in hunting, horse racing and breeding, fox hounds, and tennis. After beginning his lifelong career as a banker at the Delaware Trust Corporation in Wilmington, Delaware, William du Pont, Jr. designated Bellevue Hall as his primary residence.

During this time he became a thoroughbred horse breeder, horse race track designer, foxhound breeder, and tennis enthusiast and promoter. With estates such as Fair Hill in Cecil County, Maryland, Bellevue Hall in Wilmington, Delaware, Walnut Hall Farm in Boyce, Virginia, and local flat and steeplechase race courses, William du Pont, Jr. has made a lasting impact on the Delmarva landscape.
