In 1952 the DuPont Company organized a Product Information section within the Public Relations Department. Its main purpose was to create news releases accompanied by photographs which would be run editorially by trade journals and newspapers, in effect creating inexpensive publicity and indirect advertising.
DuPont Textile Fibers Product Information was handled out of the Company office in New York City's Empire State Building. The department issued photographs and press releases for editorial use, designed to establish and strengthen in the reader's mind the connection between DuPont, maker of fibers, and the garment and fashion industry.
