especially
for the
purpose
and
backed
by
continuous
mill
experience
since
1941
, the
DuPont
Sodium
Hydride
Descaling
Process
is
essentially
a
chemically
activated
fused
caustic
soda
cleaning
bath
.
Advantages
over
conventional
pickling
and
cleaning
baths
include
shorter
cycles
;
elimination
of
over
pickling
,
thereby
saving
up
to
2-3%
base
metal
;
no
dimensional
changes
; also
smooth
surfaces
are
retained
. This
positive
,
single
cycle
process
cuts
costs
to the
core
.
Add
up
all
possible
advantages
, the
other
processes
cannot
compare
. By the
new
process
, the
scale
,
reduced
by the
sodium
hydride
dissolved
in
fused
caustic
virtually
is
blasted
form
the
surface
of the
metal
by the
generation
of
steam
in a
subsequent
water
quench
and
it
remains
only
to
brighten
the
surface
by a
few
seconds
dip
in
acid
. The
DuPont
sodium
hydride
bath
is
effective
on
carbon
,
alloy
and
stainless
steels
as
well
as
nonferrous
metals
and
alloys
such
as
nickel
,
copper
,
titanium
,
Hastelloys
,
Stellite
and
Vitalium
.
Stainless
steel
bars
are
shown
ready
for
dipping
in the
DuPont
sodium
hydride
bath
.
