1963 Studebaker With Skytop Sunroof
automobiles; design; roofs;
written on back of print: "Designed 1961" note afixed to back of print: "One of Studebaker's most exciting styling options for 1963 is its Skytop Sunroof available on all hardtops and sedans. The sturdy, reinforced vinyl top is completely weather-proof and opens easily with one hand to bring sun and fresh air into the car's interior. For top performance and safety Studebaker also offers as optional equipment on all models its Avanti Jet-thrust engine in either the supercharged or non-supercharged versions, and caliper disc brakes on the front wheels. New exterior trim mouldings and all-new interior trim also highlight all Studebaker lines for 1963. From: Joseph DeFranco Director of Public Relations Studebaker Corporation South Bend, Indiana Release September 23, 1962."

Carter Lake Pressure Tunnel, Ripple Rock, British Columbia
1958-04-05
Blasting; Explosives;
Typed caption on photo: "This is the scene in Seymour Narrows, 120 miles northwest of Vancouver, British Columbia, as the largest non-atomic blast in history sheared the tops off the top of the twin underwater peaks of Ripple Rock, one of the world's worst hazards to navigation. Some 2,750,000 pounds of 'Nitramex' 2H blasting agent supplied by the DuPont Company of Canada (1956) Limited blasted out 700,000 tons of water and rock and ended the menace of Ripple Rock. More than 100 boats had been wrecked and scores of lives lost in this reach of the inland waterway to Alaska. The first photograph in the dramatic sequence above was snapped 1/4 second after the blast, the second at 1/2 second and shows a black burst from North Rock while a smaller eruption comes up from South Rock, which was fired a few milliseconds later. The third photograph in teh sequence was made at zero plus 0.7, the fourth at 0.8, the fifth at 1.7. In the final two pictures, made at zero plus 4.7 and 8.4 seconds, great chunks of rocks can be seen amidst the geyser of pulverized rock and salt water. This sequence was taken from a sandbagged bunker 2,500 feet from the blast."
