On March 5, 1920, the Brandywine River overflowed its banks as a blizzard struck Wilmington. Forty city blocks were flooded. Considerable damage and flooding resulted to an area known as "The Orchards" where boathouses, docks and boats were anchored on the Brandywine River near the Eleventh St. Bridge . It is believed an associate of Frank Zebley, C.H. Brice, kept a boat here. Brice appears in photo.

Designed in 1881 by Theophilus Parsons Chandler, Pelleport was originally inhabited by William du Pont and his wife May Lammot du Pont. A number of du Pont family members lived in the house through the early twentieth century, but Pelleport was ultimately abandoned and eventually razed.

Located on Old Kennett Road outside Wilmington, the mansion was built in 1933 for Amy du Pont, a noted horsewoman, and designed to be similar to George Washington's Virginia home, 'Mount Vernon.' The architect was Mrs. Mary Craig and the builder was George McCauley and Son. In 1949, the home was given to nephew, Eugene du Pont III; Dauneport is no longer owned by the du Pont family.
