Located on Old Kennett Road outside Wilmington, the mansion was built in 1933 for Amy du Pont, a noted horsewoman, and designed to be similar to George Washington's Virginia home, 'Mount Vernon.' The architect was Mrs. Mary Craig and the builder was George McCauley and Son. In 1949, the home was given to nephew, Eugene du Pont III; Dauneport is no longer owned by the du Pont family.

On March 5, 1920, the Brandywine River overflowed its banks as a blizzard struck Wilmington. Forty city blocks were flooded. Considerable damage and flooding resulted to an area known as "The Orchards" where boathouses, docks and boats were anchored on the Brandywine River near the Eleventh St. Bridge . It is believed an associate of Frank Zebley, C.H. Brice, kept a boat here.

The land and farm was owned by the Jacquet family, whose family settled here from the Netherlands. Major Peter Jacquet was an officer in the Delaware Line during the Revolution. The farm was located about a mile below Wilmington on Route 13.

The log church was believed to be built in 1667 by Swedish and Dutch settlers and used until 1699 when Old Swedes (Holy Trinity) was opened. A marker made of native granite was erected by the Historical Society of Delaware in 1896 and reads 'THIS STONE MARKS THE SITE OF CRANE HOOK CHURCH BUILT 1667.'

The photograph shows the interior of Old Bethel Church, located on Foulk Road north of Wilmington, in disrepair. The photograph reveals it was used for storage, housing an old carriage and other items. This church was later torn down and a newer church made of serpentine stone was erected and named Chester-Bethel was erected near the original site.
