Control room of DuPont's 25 million pound 'Hylene' organic isocyanates plant now on stream at the Chambers Works, Deepwater Point, New Jersey. The plant was constructed during 1955 and completed in January of 1956. It currently employs approximately 80 people. Organic isocyanates are versatile chemicals which, in combination with various other compounds, form rubber like or plastic like material s which potentially wide use in such fields as building, transportation, upholstery and insulation.

A laboratory technician inspects a sheet of Viton fluoroelastomer. As shipped by DuPont from its plant at Deepwater Point, New Jersey, Viton is a translucent, light color gum. This new special purpose rubber is a result of DuPont's long activity in the field of fluorine chemistry. Highly resistant to oils, fuels and solvents at high temperatures Viton has had immediate acceptance by designers of high speed aircraft and missiles.

Viton' fluoroelastomer, DuPont's new fluorine-based elastomer is milled into sheets, the final step in its manufacture at the Deepwater Point, New Jersey plant. At this stage, it is a translucent, light colored gum which rubber companies compound with other ingredients to fabricate end products. 'Viton' has a super resistance to oils, fuels and solvents at high temperatures.
