The architect was Mrs. Mary Craig and the builder was George McCauley and Son. In 1949, the home was given to nephew, Eugene du Pont III; Dauneport is no longer owned by the du Pont family.

Designed in 1881 by Theophilus Parsons Chandler, Pelleport was originally inhabited by William du Pont and his wife May Lammot du Pont. A number of du Pont family members lived in the house through the early twentieth century, but Pelleport was ultimately abandoned and eventually razed.
