Note with image: 'Three cars undergo the 'mechanical roll test' simultaneously at the end of the final assembly line in General Motors' new plant at Fremont, Calif. After each car is positioned on the 'rolls' (four large revolving drums recessed in the plant floor) it is put through a cycle of acceleration, deceleration and braking to check engine, transmission, suspension and brakes for proper operation. Speedometer accuracy is also checked at this point.'
