DuPont Building construction and Hotel du Pont photographs

About this collection

The DuPont Building, located on Rodney Square in downtown Wilmington, Delaware, was built between 1905 and 1907. It was the third office building and headquarters of the E.I. du Pont de Nemours Company. The building was enlarged between the years 1911 and 1913 to include the Hotel du Pont and the Playhouse Theatre. The collection documents the construction of the DuPont Building. Included are photographs of buildings which were demolished to make way for the new building, as well as views of the various stages of demolition and construction. The 1911-13 additions of the Hotel du Pont and the Playhouse theater are also documented. There are also interior views of the Hotel du Pont, including the lobby, hotel rooms, and the Green Room, among others. Click here for a detailed description of the collection.
