About this collection

    Shell was formed in 1907 through the merger of Royal Dutch Petroleum Company of the Netherlands and The "Shell" Transport and Trading Company of the United Kingdom. Over the years, it has grown to become a vertically integrated and is active in every area of the oil and gas industry, with operations in nearly 100 nations.
    The company began issuing stainability reports about its environmental performance in 1997. The reports contain information about the company's activities in worker and public safety, environmental impact and sustainability, impact on communities, shareholder reports, and other similar performance data.
    Hagley Library's collection of sustainability reports from Shell are digital-only copies and date from 1998 to 2020.
