About this collection

    The Cavalcade of America was an anthology drama radio program created and sponsored by the DuPont Company as a promotional tool. It aired weekly from 1935 to 1953. The stories were presented as uplifting and emphasized human achievements, progress, and technological innovations.
    The show had eighteen series producing 781 episodes, many featuring famous guest stars such as Robert Mitchum, Ossie Davis, Ginger Rogers, Ida Lupino, Clark Gable, Ralph Bellamy, and Lucille Ball. In 1952, the program was adapted into a television program; the radio show was discontinued in 1953.
    The Cavalcade of America photographs (Accession 1985.259) collection consists of photographs relating to the radio show. This digital collection contains representative images from each folder, but the physical collection has not been digitized in its entirety.
