The big metal ship, piloted by Captain William C. Kepner, one of the country's leading balloonists remained aloft for forty-nine minutes. In addition to the pilot the passenger car carried four other persons. They were Art. J. Schlosser, Ed. J. Hill, Joe Bishop, asst. pilot and Carl Fritche. Naval air experts from Washington witnessed the test but did not go up in the metal craft. They will witness further tests at Detroit and then will take the airship to the Lakehurst Naval Air Station where it will be officially turned over to the United States Navy. The first of its kind ever built, the ZMC-2 is an experimental ship, built to test out the designer's belief that a dirigible constructed entirely of metal is flight-worthy, more durable and less subject to hazards than the ordinary dirigible of fabric, such as the Graf Zeppelin and the big naval dirigible, Los Angeles. The ship is 150 feet in length over-all and is 50 feet in diameter. Its metal skin has a gas capacity of 200,000 cubic feet. Helium gas, which is non-inflamable, is used instead of the hydrogen used by the Graf Zeppelin. The ship is powered by two Wright Whirlwind motors of 225-horsepower each and is expected to develop a speed of 62 miles and hour.'
