Description

Undated image, possibly created between 1887 and 1913.

Saalfeld was a chemist that emigrated to Britain from Germany around the mid-1880s, where he worked as a businessman and entrepreneur in the perfume industry. He became well-known in his later life as a a male survivor of the Titanic disaster, which created social and professional difficulties for him.
