During the war, the human pickup was a top military secret and was used in Burma and Europe. Cain wears a special nylon harness to which a steel ring is attached. A hook on the end of a nylon rope suspended from the plane catches in the ring. The great elasticity of the rope and a windlass in the plane saves him any jolt when contact is made. Cain reported the sensation is less than that received when an automobile is started in low gear.
