Text on verso: 'Led by the city of Detroit, six balloons tonight were floating northeast over Lake Erie after being cheered by 200,000 as they took off from Cleveland Airport late today in the nineteenth Gordon Bennett International Balloon Races. The City of Detroit was the first to take off. Pilots flying the foreign entries said they expected the race to follow a general northeasterly direction and end in the province of Ontario or in Labrador. Text on verso: 'This Fokker ship, piloted by Bert Acosta and owned by Charles A. Levine, crashed at Roosevelt Field, L.I., June 18th. The plane was badly smashed, but Acosta and three passengers escaped with minor scratches. The pilot had been stunting and as has been his habit, he carried on too near the ground, this time coming to grief. Levine planned to fly in the craft to Harbor Grace, N.F. where Mabel Boll anticipated a takeoff. Photo shows the wreckage.'

Text on verso: 'Nila Cram Cook, erstwhile handmaiden of Mahatma Ghandi, experienced a new thrill, April 22nd, when she took her first flight at Roosevelt Field, New York, and witnessed a parachute jumper leap from the plane in which she was flying.
