Near the village of Corner Ketch on Horseshoe Pike, the original church was erected in 1842, and burned in 1856. This newer church replaced the original one.

Phillip Barratt, land owner and sheriff, deeded an acre of land to Methodists surrounding a brick meeting house being built in that area in 1780. It was considered the 'Cradle or World Shrine of American Methodism, Sacred Landmark of Methodism' in 1880 and a 'Mecca of Methodism' in 1896. It was nominated to the National Register of Historical Places in 1972.

The photograph shows the interior of Old Bethel Church, located on Foulk Road north of Wilmington, in disrepair. The photograph reveals it was used for storage, housing an old carriage and other items. This church was later torn down and a newer church made of serpentine stone was erected and named Chester-Bethel was erected near the original site.

Sound Methodist Church was located about one mile east of Williamsville Route 54 in Sussex County, Delaware. Freeborn Garrettson, a well-known preacher, is said to have felled the first tree to build the church. The church was used between 1784 and 1868. Several churches were built on the site and a camp meeting was held each year from 1814 to 1931.

The parish organized in 1689; in 1703, they raised money and built the church on Market Square. In 1820, the church was developed to its present appearance by Philadelphia architect William Strickland. The graveyard is completely filled and dates to at least 1707.
