In his interview, Chad Holliday describes the various manufacturing and supervisory roles he held with DuPont prior to being named CEO of the company in 1998. He begins with his first job to support manufacturing at Old Hickory, Tennessee in 1970. He comments that his previous work in his father’s industrial supply business served him well in his industrial engineering work at Old Hickory. He talks about the "Reemay #3 tank" and describes the various improvements made while he was working in spinning including to yarn improvement teams, shipping containers, and random doffing.

After mentioning his progression to shift supervisor and then day supervisor, he describes his promotion to IE (Industrial Engineering) Group supervisor, during which he brought in mentors and coaches for his group of nine engineers, the result of which was that they "blew out all goals for the year."

He then relates his transfer to Wilmington as Dacron business analyst when the filament business was struggling, where he was responsible for reviewing 97 MTM (Methods-Time Measurement) charts each week.

He then describes his transfer to Cooper River, South Carolina as a key point in his career, where he was control area supervisor and staple area supervisor. He comments on the different management structure at the site compared to other textile fiber plants at the time. He describes bringing his Cooper River experience with him to his next assignment as Planning and Control Superintendent at Martinsville, Virginia, where, through Hank Clark, was exposed to the concepts of operational excellence (OE).

He then comments on his promotion to Assistant Plant Manager at Seaford, Delaware and his assignment in Corporate Plans. He explains the principle of "direct use cost system." He describes the corporate objective of cutting cost by 5000 employees. The plan was to retire 5000 employees by a +5 service and a +5 age offer. This plan was oversubscribed by retiring 15,000 employees.

He then details doubling the earnings of Nomex in one year as Business Manager and describes business activity in Japan. The last item he discusses is the settlement of the patent lawsuit brought against Kevlar by Akzo N.V.
