Maxwell, Commander of US armed forces in the Middle East who directed US North African Military Mission and colonel Alan G. Cole, Royal Staff Artillery Officer in Washington representing the British Eight Army. Addressing tank workers of the American Locomotive Company and small businessmen throughout the country, who are suppliers and sub-contractors help the company produce the first tank killer a year ago today, Col. Cole declared that this weapon marked the turning point of the war at El-Alamein by enabling the British Eighth Army to succeed when otherwise they might have failed. Gen. Maxwell and Col. Cole were chief speakers at a city wide celebration attended by many other high ranking officers of the British and American armies. Ceremonies included sealing of a time capsule in City Hall containing mementos of the building of the first M-7 completed here a year ago and world premiere of Desert Victory, official British documentary film of El Alamein battle attended by a unique audience of workers for a first night in mid afternoon to witness the effectiveness of the weapons created by their own hands. Photo shows workers of ALCO entering theater to see premier of Desert Victory between rows of M-7 and M-4 tanks lined up in front of the theater.
