Located on Old Kennett Road outside Wilmington, the mansion was built in 1933 for Amy du Pont, a noted horsewoman, and designed to be similar to George Washington's Virginia home, 'Mount Vernon.' The architect was Mrs. Mary Craig and the builder was George McCauley and Son. In 1949, the home was given to nephew, Eugene du Pont III; Dauneport is no longer owned by the du Pont family.

Photograph shows the tombstone of Jonathan Zebley, great grandfather of Frank Zebley. The tombstone reads, 'Sacred to the memory of Jonathan Zebley who departed this life November 19 A.D. 1879.' He is buried in the Chester Bethel Cemetery on Foulk Rd. Wilmington, DE. In the 1800's, Jonathan Zebley operated a shipyard along the Brandywine River, Wilmington. Later, it became the Thatcher Shipyard near the 16th Street Bridge.

On March 5, 1920, the Brandywine River overflowed its banks as a blizzard struck Wilmington. Forty city blocks were flooded. Considerable damage and flooding resulted to an area known as "The Orchards" where boathouses, docks and boats were anchored on the Brandywine River near the Eleventh St. Bridge . It is believed an associate of Frank Zebley, C.H. Brice, kept a boat here.

Burned Wilson Line ship used as a pleasure tour boat. Joseph Wilson and son, Horace, formed the Wilmington Steamboat Company in 1882. In 1888, it became the Wilson Line and owned three steamboat ships. It developed excursion trips from Philadelphia, Chester, Wilmington and became owners of the New Castle-Pennsville and Wilmington-Penns Grove ferries.
