Here is a space age resemblance -technicians wrapping up a 30 foot furlable space antenna at Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, in Sunnyvale CA. (Clean room suits are work to safeguard against lint or fabric catching on the antenna). Believe it or not, but this is the deck of a boat- The Crescent City- which left Detroit this week with 527 motor cars aboard, the largest single shipment of any one make of car ever to leave Detroit via water. The shipment was made by the Plymouth Motor Corporation, and was destined for points on the Great Lakes. Almost every square foot of the craft, including the topdeck, as shown in this photo, was covered with new Standard and De Luxe Plymouth Sixes.

In February 1958 GM Research Laboratories demonstrated an automatically guided passenger car, steered and controlled by signals from an electric cable beneath the road surface. In June 1960, outside RCAs David Sarnoff Research Center, Princeton NJ, a full scale automotive automatic pilot system was demonstrated. Both cars in this photo are automatically guided by electrical signals from the road.
