The car is said to be complete in every detail, and could be driven out on the highway should the occasion demand.

Show moreMartin Pulich is Public Defender in Alameda Country, California, a civil servant and a brilliant lawyer. Eighty-six U.S. cities, counties or states and the associated Commonwealth of Puerto Rico have adopted the fast spreading Public Defender system of protecting the needy accused. While the plan was first adopted in an American count in 1914, the concept even then was not new. But attempts to improve on it continue. Some U.S. areas use a private defender system. Latest and very promising is the 'mixed private-public system' of three U.S. cities and Puerto Rico, whereby a private Legal Aid Society is supported with public funds. In the Judge's hands is the state's indictment against Pulich's client. The case of "The People vs. John Smith"-or whatever the defendant's name may be-is about to open.

The "inside story" of 1940 car-The slightest jiggle of this 1940 Plymouth, which Miss Average Motorist, ordinarily would never detect, is here picked up by the newest-type "vibration meter" and amplified to a roar like thunder in the headphones she holds at her ear. Super-sensitive apparatus like this aide Chrysler Corporation engineers in year-round road tests of regular Plymouth production cars, as safe-guard against noise or vibration in this model's new "luxury ride".

- Description
-
Because electrical sparks must be able to jump 200 times a second through the contact point of an automobile voltage regulator, this tiny part is platinum tipped. The platinum, at $1,334 a pound, makes the part one of the most expensive, ounce for ounce, in your car. Here Florence Naum of Ford Motor Company's Ypsilanti, Mich., plant looks with a magnified, critical eye at selected samples to be sure each is in perfect condition to assure long wear.
