The flyers probably will land today at Eugene, Ore., instead of Vancouver barracks, Washington, Major Martin announced this morning.'

Text on verso: 'The photo shows the disabled drifting plane Boston which came to grief on the hop from the Orkney Islands, Scotland, to Reykjavik, Iceland, just after the destroyer Billingsley, first to the rescue had thrown it a tow rope. Lieut. Wade is shown in the cockpit of the plane, while Lieut. Ogden is on one of the pontoons to make the rope fast, a risky trick in the choppy waters of the North Atlantic.'

The damage was not serious and after an hour's delay the machine was on its way again. (Photo shows the round the world plane piloted by Lt. Wade which was forced down at Cottonwood, Calif. The picture shows mechanic working on the radiator and repairing other slight damage.)'

Text on verso: 'This is first photo showing ill-fated plane of Lieut. Wade, one of the U.S. round-world fliers, who crashed into the sea between the Orkneys and Iceland. In this photo the plane is shown lying on the water with a destroyer approaching to take Lieuts. Wade and Ogden off. The plane was taken in tow by one of the destroyers to go to Iceland, but was subsequently destroyed by gunfire.'

Lowell Smith, above, negotiated the 878-mile flight from Attu Island to Paramashiru Island, thereby gaining for their country and themselves the distinction of being the first to cross the Pacific Ocean by air.
