The entire crew of four arrived in China on the giant Vickers Vulture amphibian. Text on verso: 'The first relic of the round-the-world flight to be brought back is the map used by Lieut. Erik Nelson, engineering officer of the party, on the first leg of the long trip. It was brought back by a friend to whom Nelson presented it and shows through its myriad of wrinkles and torn pieces, highly interesting pencil notations made by the airman relative to the course of the flight. This picture shows little Lillian Guenther of Los Angeles holding the historic map.'

Text on verso: 'Although his ambition to be the first man to fly around the world alone was thwarted by a series of mishaps, Jimmy Mattern came back to New York to be officially greeted by Mayor John P. O'Brien July 31st, and congratulated on his safe return and for his 'courage and resolution in the face of insurmountable obstacles.' Mattern is shown waving to the crowd as he left City Hall after the ceremonies. With him are Harry Jameson (left) and Irving Friedman, backers of his flight.'

Stuart MacLaren, head of the British round-the-world flight, as they appeared on their arrival at Shanghai, China. The daring Britishers appeared very sunburned, but happy. Since this picture was taken, the airmen were compelled to make a forced descent on Uruppu Island and for a time their lives were feared for.'

Planes flew overhead dropping blossoms and crepe streamers as part of the unprecedented funeral rites, attended by Oklahoma's most prominent citizens, including the governor.'

It became known when the plane arrived in New York aboard the Duilio. The Santa Maria II will replace the destroyed plane of Francesco de Pinedo, Italian aviator now in New York on his way around the world. Photo shows de Pinedo reading letter from wife which came over on same ship with plane.'
