Description: In 1866, a wooden figurehead was sent to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD that was salvaged from a ship sunk in the Civil War (to prevent it getting into Confederate hands) from the line 'Delaware.' It was called various names before its final name 'Tecumseh.' In 1891, funds were raised to make bronze statue. Midshipmen gave prayers and offerings, and saluted the statue for good luck while taking exams or winning athletic contests. It receives a coat of paint for Parent's Weekend and...
