The nylon chemicals are shipped to other DuPont plants for further processing into yarn, monofilaments for brush bristles and plastic molding powders. Methanol, a basic industrial chemical is the principal ingredient of Zerone anti-freeze. The Alathon resins are frequently found in such things as squeezable cosmetics bottles, food wrappers, electrical insulation and chemical containers. The plant, operated by the company's Polychemicals Department, has modern laboratories, fully staffed medical building, cafeteria and air conditioned offices and production control room. D.B. Campbell is the manager.

As a result, well over 1,000 new jobs have been created. The plant manufactures Lucite acrylic resin, Zytel nylon, Tynex nylon monofilament, Teflon fluorocarbon resins and Delrin acetal resin. Nylon plastic is unusually tough, a factor which makes it ideal for mechanical parts or appliance gears. In filament form it is used in hair brushes, street sweeps or fishing line. Teflon is in demand for fuel lines and electrical parts for rockets and missiles because of its resistance to high temperatures and virtually every chemical including liquid oxygen.
