Gleaming white storage tanks mark the end of the manufacturing cycle for Freon fluorinated hydrocarbon compounds at DuPont's multimillion dollar Antioch California plant. Actual manufacture takes place in the open framework structure towering above the storage tanks in the background.
Ammonia storage tanks at DuPont's Memphis, TN plant make interesting pattern of light and shadow. Each tank holds 200,000 pounds of anhydrous ammonia, which is one of the raw materials from which the plant produces hydrogen and sodium cyanide, important industrial chemicals. Hydrogen peroxide, widely use industrial bleach and chemical intermediate, is also made here. All told the plant provides jobs for some 500 workers.
