In a letter to her sister, Brown writes that she has been unwell and her spirits are low. She says she has sent some of the songs she has written to the P. J. Howley Co. in New York City. She names the songs, saying her inspiration came from storybooks Mr. Cable ordered from Sears Roebuck and Co. Brown further writes that she has no money, and, in a postscript, Brown tells Edwards that if she will send goods for a new dress, Mrs. Cable will make it.
