This early Georgian style building was begun in 1787 and completed in 1791. In 1870, it was enlarged to include two wings, which were removed in 1931 and the building returned to its original appearance. Bronze tablets mark Delawareans that were 'Framers of the Constitution,' signers of the Declaration of Independence, Revolutionary officers, signers of the Treaty of Ghent, and state governors. Lord de la Warr, for whom the state, river, and bay are named, has a portrait displayed here.
