Water loaded with impurities picked up from the gases in the scrubbing process is pumped to the hilltop, a rise of 700 feet, is there aerated and then descends by gravity, circulating through a system of 36 inch mains, 2000 feet long. Coal is the main raw materials used at Belle. Air and water are two others. Ammonia and the alcohols are in turn the raw materials for a wide variety of products made at belle and by other industrial producers. These include nylon intermediates from which nylon for textiles and plastics are produced; urea, for fertilizers, cattle feeds, medicinals, adhesives and plastics; nitric acid ; formaldehyde; ethylene glycol; methyl methacrylates for Lucite acrylic resin plastics; Mycoban mold inhibitor; and many others.
