This marble bench was built to commemorate William M. Canby, first president of the Park Commission, who served from 1883-1904. Inscription on the back of the bench reads 'To the Memory of William Marriott Canby, First President of Board of Park' Commissioners of the City of Wilmington, 1883-1904.'

On a triangle beyond northern approach of Washington Memorial Bridge, William M. Todd built a memorial to his parents in 1925. A successful shipbuilder in New York, Todd was a native of Wilmington. He was a member of the Old Reliance Volunteer Fire Company and entertained the Wilmington firefighters in Brooklyn for parades.

In 1866, a wooden figurehead was sent to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD that was salvaged from a ship sunk in the Civil War (to prevent it getting into Confederate hands) from the line 'Delaware.' It was called various names before its final name 'Tecumseh.' In 1891, funds were raised to make bronze statue. Midshipmen gave prayers and offerings, and saluted the statue for good luck while taking exams or winning athletic contests. It receives a coat of paint for Parent's Weekend and...
