Baby is slung from her shoulder, and her pet dog is under her right arm.' Another typed caption reads, 'Simplicity of the East. Primitive but effective methods of doing things in India that contrast strikingly with those of the highly mechanised Western world. There are few things under the sun that cannot be done with simplicity, and in Asia, largely because so many people live near the starvation line, simplicity is the keynote of life; everything is reduced to its lowest common denominator, whereas in the West everything has tended to become more complicated as the machine age has increasingly tended to hold us in thrall. These pictures illustrate just a few of the countless instances of this simplicity which so captures the imagination of the European on his first visit to the Oriental lands.'
