Mud from bottom is collected in dredge, rear, then washed in trays so scientists can study worms and snails living in the stream bed. They show first effects of any pollution. An incinerator and evaporation basins were built and two mile deep wells drilled to carry off unusable by products of Victoria plant operations.

Insects caught along the Guadalupe River are studied in temporary laboratory by a zoologist from the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Science. He uses a 'teaser' to mount a large dragonfly. The Guadalupe study represents one of many efforts by DuPont to insure disposal of trade wastes without pollution of streams or air.

Before the Victoria, Texas plant of DuPont's Plastics Department was put into operation, arrangements were made for scientists of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia to make a study of the Guadalupe River on which the plant is located. The objective was to determine the state of health of the river and this assist in planning a pollution prevention program for the plant. The DuPont Company has spent approximately $40,000,000 on a continuing program to prevent water and air pollution.
