Located on Old Kennett Road outside Wilmington, the mansion was built in 1933 for Amy du Pont, a noted horsewoman, and designed to be similar to George Washington's Virginia home, 'Mount Vernon.' The architect was Mrs. Mary Craig and the builder was George McCauley and Son. In 1949, the home was given to nephew, Eugene du Pont III; Dauneport is no longer owned by the du Pont family. |

The original steel Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Bridge (background), was completed in 1884. In 1909, B&O built the stone arch bridge (foreground), and the old steel bridge was turned over to New Castle County. It was converted into a highway bridge in 1922. |
