- Description
-
Quilon chrome complex, a chemical that makes materials water repellent, was developed in DuPont's Industrial and Bio chemicals Department. It greatly increases the wet strength of paper and is also widely used in treating felt hats, shoe leather and garment suede. Garments of sheepskin suede treated with Quilon may be dry cleaned by ordinary methods, without special processing. Here a DuPont Chemist makes an experimental batch for test coatings.

Show moreResurfacing material is made by mixing neoprene latex with a special kind of water setting cement and an aggregate of finely crushed stone. Man with brush is applying a prime coat of neoprene latex to secure a tight bond to the old concrete. Neoprene is DuPont's synthetic rubber and addition of it to the mix produces important improvement. It makes the floor much less slippery and therefore safer then resilience to make it noticeably easier on the feet of workers who stand all day at the machines. It makes the floor somewhat flexible and therefore resistant to cracking or chipping by vibration, heavy traffic or thermal expansion and contraction. Because neoprene is resistant to oil and grease the floor won't be hurt if machine oil spills or drips on it. The floor shown in the picture is surfaced with the workhorse variety of the material and in this form the product is widely used in factories, freight cars and ship decking. The material is also produced in c colorful modifications for office building cafeterias, sundecks and similar public places where good looking decorative effects are desired along with safety and comfort underfoot.

- Polythene table covers

- Description
-
A boon to the summertime hostess is this transparent table cover of polythene, a new plastic which protects the cloth beneath it but does not hide the gay pattern. Laundry bills are thus reduced, for spots and stains don't penetrate the cover and are easily wiped off with a damp cloth. Strong yet flexible, the material drapes softly and falls with the folds of the linen cloth. In addition to the luncheon size shown, the cover comes in bridge, dinette and large size for picnics.
