About this collection

    Sewing Machine Times was a bi-monthly trade journal published from 1882 to 1924, during the height of sewing machine manufacturing. The journal provided space for sewing manufacturers, retailers, marketers, and other related professionals to discuss changes and advancements in home and factory sewing machines.
    A typical issue of the journal contained news stories and articles about about new products, employment notices, advertisements for sewing machines and related home goods, and descriptions of sewing machine retail locations.
    Hagley Library's holdings of the publication are call number f TJ1501 .S4956 in our collections. The collection comprises seventeen volumes spanning 1891 to 1911, and does not include the entire run of the journal.
